How David McDonald Has Been Active In Growing OSI Group As A Company

OSI Group, LLC, is a highly successful privately held company in the food processing industry. One of the individuals most responsible for this success is David G. McDonald. As the President and Chief Operating Officer of the company, he has been a large influence on its expansion into a global company. He has handled a number of international acquisitions including two that occurred last year. He is a graduate of Iowa State University and hold a bachelor’s degree in animal science.

Soon after earning his university education in the mid-80’s, David McDonald joined OSI Group in Aurora, Illinois. OSI Group/Industries Boast More Than 65 Facilities

The OSI Group, also know as OSI Industries has a phenomenal history that extend more than 100 years.

Back in 1909 a foreigner from German, named Otto Kolschowsky, settled in the suburbs of Chicago and started a small family-owned store that originally specialized in quality cuts of meat.

The business went through some changes over the years, but it never altered its reputation for providing excellent service and products.

In fact, in the year 1955 it was one of the suppliers to a new eating-place on the horizon called McDonalds.

Today, Mr. Sheldon Lavin is the leader of OSI Industries; he joined the business in the 70s, when Otto Kolschowsky’s two sons were running it.

At that time, the business was named Otto & Sons and the gentlemen had taken their dad’s butcher shop to another level. However, with Mr. Lavin as their partner, the business would become an enterprise, expanding into international community.

The year 1975, Otto & Sons became OSI Group.

As the time went on, OSI grew more vigorously and flourished in multiple countries, including Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Germany, India, Canada and Japan.

Under Mr. Sheldon Lavin’s watch, the company has acquired a variety of entities including paying more than 7 million for Tyson Food’s production plant, as well as claiming a stake in Dutch Baho Foods, a private convenient food distribution company.

What started out as just a simple business of supplying meat to the locals in the neighborhood and others in proximity of the butcher shop – has morphed into a conglomerate.

OSI Group/Industries boast more than 65 facilities, within 17 countries and providing jobs for approximately 20,000 employees and counting.

This commercial enterprise has won numerous awards in the areas of health, safety and environmental responsibility.

After more than 40 years with OSI Group, Mr. Sheldon Lavin has no plans to slow down.
